The chart below may be used to make quick estimate of the horsepower required
Aerator Selection Chart
1. This chart will select the total amount of horsepower required to treat a given waste if the BOD(mg/l) and the daily flow (gallons/day) are known. To use, select the appropriate daily waste flow on the left-hand site of the chart. Extend a horizontal line to the right until you intersect the appropriate BOD curve. Drop a line vertically and read the horsepower required for aeration.
2. Calculations are based on a desired BOD reduction of 90%, & factor of 8, 1.25# O2/LB. BOD and a standard condition transfer of 3.5# O2/HP-HR.
3. Accuracy is usually within 10%.
